FoxTown Cantu emerged from a tense battle with an 87-83 road win over Tartu University Rock in Group R of the FIBA Europe Cup.
Turning Point: After 18 lead changes and eight ties it came down to the final few moments. Abass Awudu Abass' three-pointer with 87 seconds left gave FoxTown an 85-82 edge and they led the rest of the way as Tartu's shooting touch deserted them. Tanel Kurbas could only split a pair of free throws and after Walter Hodge went to the line to put the visitors 87-83 up, Evaldas Zabas missed a three-pointer and Karolis Petrukonis twice failed to make the tip-in before time expired.
Game Hero: JaJuan Johnson paced FoxTown with 24 points and nine rebounds. Johnson was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and he also had two blocks and two assists.
Stats Don't Lie: Tartu turned the ball over nine times to FoxTown's four, and the visitors capitalised with a 12-8 edge in points from turnover.
The Bottom Line: FoxTown sit at 2-0 in the standings despite winning their opening two games by a combined seven points. Tartu have work to do after falling to a second loss by single digits.
They Said: "In this league every game is important, especially home games. We had to take some risks and unfortunately for us they made us pay for that. We were up by five and then let in some easy mistakes and that cost us the game" - Gert Kullamae, TU/Rock head coach.
