A fourth-quarter push saw Krka Novo Mesto edge out Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden 86-78 in Group G of the FIBA Europe Cup, leaving the hosts winless after six games.
Turning Point: With little riding on the game, Leiden were hoping to catch Krka taking it easy so they could at least put a win on the board, and they led for much of the third quarter. But an 11-3 run which continued into the fourth period saw Krka go 65-61 up on Erjon Kastrati's three-pointer, and they did not look back.
Stats Don't Lie: Leiden could not keep up the challenge against a team whose bench outscored their own 29-8.
Game Hero: Ziga Dimec struggled at the free throw line but still came away with a team-high 18 points for Krka while adding nine rebounds.
Bottom Line: When the game tipped off, Krka already knew they would finish second and Leiden last, so it was a question of whether Leiden could end their winless record. However, Krka were not in a charitable mood.
