Tamás Bencze last coached a EuroLeague Women team in 2009-10, being at the helm of Szeviep-Szeged

Tamas Bencze has been handed a route back into EuroLeague Women after being installed as head coach of HAT-AGRO Uni Gyor.

The play-caller previously paced the sidelines in the competition during the 2009-10 campaign when at the helm of another Hungarian club, Szeviep-Szeged.

Bencze succeeds Aron Szentendrei who stepped down from the position last week and most recently, Bencze has been holding the reins of men's club Falco KC Szombately.

The coach claimed his appointment was somewhat unexpected and he is aware of the sizeable challenge which lies in wait.

"The club has gone through very difficult time and it is still not an easy situation," acknowledged Bencze.

"A few days ago, I had no idea that I would get this job, which is a real honour for me.

"The club's purpose has not changed, we need to get to the top four in Hungary.This is definitely achievable.

"There are players with whom I have worked with, but it's been a few years since I directed a women's team."

He continued, "It will not be an easy task (in EuroLeague Women), which has been demonstrated in the first phase so far.

"It is clear that we are in a very difficult group, but these games are very helpful in every way - regardless of the outcome.

"We can draw strength from them."

Gyor resume their Group A campaign next week with the most difficult contest imaginable - a road trip to Russia to face defending champions UMMC Ekaterinburg.
