Arras Seek To Arrest Slump, Fire Petit

New coach, new luck for Olesia Malashenko and Arras?

The current season has been something of a nightmare so far for Arras Pays D'Artois and in a bid to stop the bleeding, the club has acted by removing head coach Thibault Petit.

The play-caller departs having guided his team to a miserable 3-19 record during the current campaign. This has left them marooned and rock bottom of Group B in the EuroLeague Women without a single victory to speak of in the first seven games.

Meanwhile things have hardly been more bearable domestically, with just three wins from 15 games. This disappointing record leaves the club in a perilous position in the French League - sat joint bottom with Hainaut Basket.

Coach Petit joined Arras during the summer of 2011 and his first season was a real up and down affair.

He led the club to a terrific success in the French Cup, but this major highlight was tainted a little by a failure to reach the play-offs and also being knocked out of EuroCup women at the quarter-final stage.

Petit had been under intense pressure throughout last month, when rumours first surfaced that he may be replaced. Although it wasn't until the league loss to Basket Landes last weekend that the patience of the hierarchy at the club ran out.

Cecile Piccin who was an assistant to Petit, will lead the team in what could barely be a more difficult EuroLeague Women game against Group B leaders Good Angels Kosice.

The roster has at least been boosted by the arrival of versatile Belarus national team player Tatsiana Likhtarovich, who may be able to provide some much needed offensive firepower having averaged over 13 points per game with Horizont in the EuroCup Women.
