|Plenette Pierson picked up where she left for Good Angels Kosice, dominating with 33 points and 12 rebounds |
Plenette Pierson's double-double drove Good Angels Kosice to a 77-69 road win against Kayseri Kaski spor in the first Group A game of the EuroLeague Women season on Wednesday.
Pierson was the star of the show as she poured in 33 points and pulled down 12 rebounds but it was Belarusian big Yelena Leuchanka who hit the go-ahead lay-up with eight minutes to play.
The game started as it was to go on, with a high-scoring first quarter which went the way of the visitors when A'dia Mathies converted on a two-point jump shot to jolt her team into an 8-0 run which put them up 15-6.
Both teams continued to shoot well but it was during a relatively barren period in the second quarter that another 8-0 Kosice burst - including four from Pierson - gave them their biggest lead at 33-21.
But Tanasha Wright registered four of her 21 points late in the second to cut the deficit to 35-41 at the half.
The lead changed hands eight times before Leuchanka laid in for 63-62 and from there the visitors held on as, somewhat inevitably, Pierson scored six pivotal points in the final three minutes.
On another night Camille Little's 26 points would have grabbed the headlines - but not with Pierson in this form.
