|Good news on the guard positions: Veronika Bortelova returns for the Czechs|
Two years and one baby after she last wore a Czech national team dress Veronika Bortelova is set to return to her country's squad for the EuroBasket Women 2013.
The 35-year-old play-maker, who took time off basketball to give birth to her first child in 2012, is among Lubor Blazek's 17-player wider nomination, announced on Tuesday.
Bortelova is one of only six "survivors" from the team who won the silver medal at the FIBA World Championship in 2010 on home soil - the Czechs' last podium finish in a major competition.
She is expected to provide the mental leadership so much needed for Blazek's team after the confirmed absences of the experienced duo of point guard Hana Horakova and sharp shooter Eva Viteckova.
"Every squad need a leader on the court; the one that will fly the flag so to speak," commented Blazek his decision to recall Bortelova.
The Czechs will commence their preparations for the Championship on 6 May.
