Bourges Pleased With Their Season

Bourges Basket kept the core of their team unchanged with only a few additions, such as Celine Dumerc, but had a new coach in Valerie Garnier

Bourges Basket finished their season riding a rollercoaster of emotions.

Knocked out of contention in the EuroLeague Women after a Second Round defeat to Rivas Ecopolis, Bourges bounced back to win the French league title.

The team then blew a big lead against Arras in the French Cup final.

Club president Pierre Fosset has told the local newspaper, the Berry Republican: "Despite the disappointment of losing in the final of the Coupe de France, it is generally good.

"We kept our (league) title and were able to party with 3,300 people in the (Palais des Sports du) Prado."

Fosset said that first-year coach Valerie Garnier had done well as the successor to Pierre Vincent, who left after the 2010-11 season to coach ASVEL in the men's league.

"Valerie did a great job," Fosset said.

"It was not easy for her. She landed in a new club, she did not choose the players and she was faced with a cascade of injuries until November ..."
