|Laura Gil's EuroLeague Women campaign has come to an unexpected early finish with an ACL injury effectively ruling her out of the remainder of the campaign|
Rivas Ecopolis have been dealt a hammer blow in their efforts to make it to the EuroLeague Women Final Eight after a scan revealed Laura Gil has sustained an ACL injury.
The 21-year-old was helped off the court by medical staff in the Liga Feminina clash against Mann Filter at the weekend and the diagnosis effectively rules her out of any further action for the remainder of the campaign.
A part of the core Rivas rotation, Gil has played in all eight EuroLeague Women outings so far this season, averaging over 26 minutes and contributing 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.
The center now looks destined to also miss out on the FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey next year, with the young star having collected gold at Eurobasket Women 2013 in France.
The likely loss of Gil will pose a real headache for Spanish national team play-caller Lucas Mondelo, who has freely admitted he does not have the same kind of frontcourt depth as many of his rivals.
