An outstanding defensive performance by Rivas Ecopolis facilitated a first road success of the season in EuroLeague Women Group A as they squeezed BK Imos Brno to claim a 66-59 win.
Whilst Rivas could barely muster an assist all night, they hardly needed to worry with sublime defensive pressure providing a string of fast-break scores off the back of a magnificent 14 steals.
The victory was also made possible due to a number of fine performances, and not least from Spanish national team player Anna Cruz who continues to shine in a big way with a typically influential 21-point haul.
With Aneika Henry claiming a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and fellow forward Oleksandra Kurasova weighing in with 17 points and nine rebounds, there was plenty for Rivas head coach Miguel Mendez to be happy with.
They didn't start too well though, falling 19-12 behind after the opening quarter, but when they stepped up their defensive intensity during the second period it was decisive.
The home team couldn't even scrape into double digits, and as a result, Rivas was able to level the scores at 28-28 by the interval.
It was when the teams returned to the floor that the Spanish visitors took control, opening up a 48-42 lead which they had extended into double digits early in the final quarter.
Brno tried to work their way back into the game but the defence of Rivas nullified any danger of a potential fight-back.
Farhiya Abdi had 22 points for the losing team.
