| 19.12.2012 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN | Belinda Snell was Polkowice's top scorer with 20 points
|
With just one win in their previous five games, the pressure was on CCC Polkowice to utilise home advantage in their crunch EuroLeague Women Group C clash with Perfumerias Avenida and they responded with a 74-63 success. The result provides a major boost to the play-off prospects of the Polish club, whilst in stark contrast, it looks to be a real hammer-blow for Avenida. The Spanish visitors will be ruing a disastrous third quarter when all they could muster was a horrific four points and whilst they rallied late in the game, it was too little, too late. CCC Polkowice were always on top for long periods, opening up a 17-8 point lead during the early exchanges after a three-ball by Belinda Snell, and then moving out to a 24-12 advantage when she found another downtown score just minutes later. Playing catch-up, Avenida did compete much better in the second quarter and so much so, they even briefly took a one-point lead after a 15-5 run culminated in a triple for Laura Antoja. But, they left their momentum and most of their game in the locker room at half-time, and the dreadful ten minutes which followed were to be their downfall. The only real bright spot for Avenida was a welcome and impressive return for Croatian center Marija Rezan after several months out of action with a knee injury, although Marta Fernandez did also contribute 21 points. Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 17 points for CCC Polkowice from 8-of-10 floor shooting, whilst Snell top scored with 20 points. |
