Nadezhda Orenburg are one of the new power of Russian basketball and to underline that fact, the team has signed Russia national team point guard Becky Hammon. The former CSKA Moscow and Ros Casares playmaker, Hammon is currently playing in the WNBA. She has confirmed her signing on her official website. It will be the second club that Hammon has played for in Russia. Following CSKA Moscow's financial meltdown before the start of the 2009-10 season, Hammon was without a club. She joined Ros Casares after the start of the campaign and played in 10 EuroLeague games. The veteran guard parted with Ros shortly before their Quarter-Final with Halcon Avenida and returned home to America. Ros ended up reaching the EuroLeague Women Final before falling to Spartak Moscow Region. Hammon is joining a club that had an 2009-10 campaign. Nadezhda reached the EuroCup Women Final but lost to Sony Athinaikos over two legs. After beating eventual champions UMMC Ekaterinburg in one of the team's Russia Superleague Women semi-final games before losing the tie 2-1, the Orenburg club defeated Dynamo Kursk 2-0 in the battle for third place. Nadezhda hit back from a 13-point deficit to win Game 2 and clinch the bronze medal in Russia's Superleague Women for the first time in their history. |
