Skerovic Leaves Sparta&K For Prague

Veteran point guard Jelena Skerovic averaged 3.8 points and 2.7 assists per game in the past EuroLeague Women season with Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje

Montenegro international Jelena Skerovic has returned to the Czech Republic to play for ZVVZ USK Prague.

The former Frisco Brno playmaker spent this season with Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and averaged 3.8 points, 2.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Skerovic, 31, will play for Montenegro this summer as they attempt to reach EuroBasket Women 2013 in France.

She has signed a one-year contract with Prague and will serve as a replacement for Lindsay Whalen at the point guard position.

Whalen was on the books of Prague for five seasons but left the club after the team captured this year's Czech league title.

While the American was always looking to score, Skerovic is a point guard that tries to control the tempo and distribute the basketball.

"It's clear that the two are different types of players," assistant coach Ivan Benes said.

"I am convinced that we have found a very good successor (to Whalen)."

Skerovic drew a lot of praise for her performance with Montenegro at EuroBasket Women 2011 in Poland.

"We know her really well," Benes said.

"In Brno, she showed great performances, and the same can be said for her contribution to the national team at the European Championship where she ran the Montenegro team."

She is the second important signing for Prague, who earlier announced that Kia Vaughn had joined from Cras Basket Taranto.
