Prague Bring In Veteran Penicheiro

USK Prague have signed Portuguese point guard Ticha Penicheiro as short-term cover for Lindsay Whalen.

The veteran Whalen needed an ankle operation after helping firing the Minnesota Lynx to their first WNBA title and won't be able to play for Lubor Blazek's side for several weeks.

Penicheiro, 37, won a EuroLeague Women title with Sparta&K Moscow Region Vidnoje in 2007.

She last played in the competition in 2008 with TTT Riga.

Penicheiro played for the Sacramento Monarchs in the WNBA from 1998-2009 and spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks.

"Ticha Penicheiro is a WNBA player and wears the jersey of Los Angeles," USK Prague manager Marek Kucera said.

"She has a wealth of experience, so we believe that she can help us a lot.

"After the WNBA Finals, Lindsay Whalen had some tests and then underwent ankle surgery. She is right now in the U.S. rehabilitating and we expect her to come to Prague in late November or December."

Penicheiro is signed through 18th December.

"We wanted to bring in a player that has enough experience and wouldn't need much time to adapt," Kucera said.

Penicheiro is to arrive in the Czech Republic on 4th November.

Prague have claimed just one victory in their opening three EuroLeague Women games.

Jackson Excited By Ros Casares Opportunity

Many times during her EuroLeague Women career, Lauren Jackson has travelled to Valencia to play against Ros Casares.

Now the 30-year-old Australia international has travelled to the Mediterranean city to play for the Spanish giants.

Jackson was unveiled to the local media on Wednesday as the latest addition to the club.

"I am very happy to be here," Jackson said at her unveiling.

"Whenever I've played in the EuroLeague, I've always visited Valencia.

"It is a beautiful city and I am going to enjoy the team.

"I think for me it's a good chance to win more titles."

Jackson has won the EuroLeague Women before as a player with Sparta&K Moscow Region Vidnoje.

Ros Casares have begun the EuroLeague Women with three straight wins.
