BASKETBALL IN EUROPE
|After seven seasons in the safe harbour of Nadezhda, Belarus international Anastasiya Verameyenka will try the uncharted waters of the Bosphorus|
Fenerbahce have confirmed the arrivals of Agnieszka Bibrzycka and Anastasiya Verameyenka to the club for next season.
Bibrzycka, a Poland international and former standout at Lotos Gdynia, Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and UMMC Ekaterinburg, is joining the Istanbul club after spending the end of this season at CCC Polkowice.
The 29-year-old guard/forward, who took some time away from the game to have a baby, appeared in both of Polkowice's games against Ros Casares in the EuroLeague Women Second Round and also turned out for the club in the Polish league (PLKK) play-offs.
They edged Lotos Gdynia in a five-game semi-final thriller but were swept 3-0 by Wisla Can-Pack Krakow in the title series.
Verameyenka, a 1.92m center and arguably the most important player in the Belarus national team, was on the books of Nadezhda Orenburg from 2005-12.
Both Bibrzycka and Verameyenka are in their respective national squads for this summer's EuroBasket Women 2013 Qualification Round.
Fenerbahce were runners-up in the Turkish Cup to Galatasaray and came in fourth at the EuroLeague Women Final Eight in Istanbul.
They ended the campaign with victory over Gala in the Turkish play-off finals.
Fener have also announced that coach George Dikeoulakos is to remain in charge of the team, and that small forward Kübra Siyahdemir, power forward Nevin Nevlin and point guard Esmeral Tuncluer have signed extensions.
