|Infallible - Ann Wauters and Ros Casares finished the regular season in Spain in the best possible way ahead of the Final Eight |
Ros Casares gave themselves an emotional lift before travelling to Istanbul for the EuroLeague Women Final Eight by setting a new standard of excellence in Spain's Liga Femenina.
Beaten in the Copa de la Reina (Spanish Cup) Final by Perfumerias Avenida on 11 March, Ros bounced back and finished the regular season unbeaten with 26 wins.
The undefeated mark was assured on Friday when Roberto Íñiguez's team claimed a 96-61 victory over Sóller Bon Dia.
The Valencia club became the first team since the league was expanded to 14 clubs (1997-98) to win all of its regular season games.
Ros Casares finished 25-1 in both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 campaigns.
"Holding the record is a result of the work around the club, the players, coaches who work very seriously ... every game to try to offer the best," Íñiguez said.
Now Ros will turn their attention to the EuroLeague Women and the aim of winning that title for the first time.
The team will compete in Group B with Wisla Can-Pack Krakow, Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and UMMC Ekaterinburg.
The side that finishes top will take on the winners of Group A in the Final.
First up for Ros Casares is a game with UMMC on Wednesday.
