BASKETBALL IN EUROPE

35. Angel McCoughtry (Fenerbahce)
Angel McCoughtry was magical for Fenerbahce on the weekend, picking up 20 points and 14 rebounds

Upsets were conspicuous by their absence over the weekend as the leading powerhouse clubs around Europe consolidated their respective positions.

MAGICAL MCCOUGHTRY MAINTAINS PRESSURE

Yet more splendid work from Angel McCoughtry helped Fenerbahce sneak a narrow and vital 66-62 road win at Mersin Buyuksehir to help maintain the pressure on Galatasaray odeabank who still top the pile in the TKBL.

The American small forward collected a tremendous 20 points and 14 rebounds to take her team to victory, although Courtney Paris was similarly impressive in defeat with a double-double of 16 points and 14 boards.

Galatasaray odeabank waltzed their way to a crushing 84-58 success against Orduspor, with Spanish national team duo Sancho Lyttle and Alba Torrens adding a combined 38 points and Turkish playmaker Isil Alben posting an eye-catching all-action effort of 15 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

Istanbul Universitesi are still trying to join what still looks to be a two-horse race and they bounced back from their EuroCup Women reverse to Dynamo Kursk by easing their way past Tarsus Belediye 82-73, as Nilay Karteltepe shone brightly with a terrific 10 assists.

Despite reaching the EuroLeague Women play-offs, Kayseri Kaski spor have slipped up a few times of late and almost did so again, but scraped a 74-72 success at bottom-placed TED Ankara.

The hosts had Lithuanian shooter Kamile Nacickaite explode for 30 points, but Camille Little and Esra Ural worked in tandem to grab a shared 31 points and 21 rebounds.

Elsewhere, Adana Botas had Michelle Snow to thank for squeezing out a 54-51 win at Konak Belediyesi as the forward secured 19 points and 14 rebounds, whilst Czech center Petra Kulichova was the standout player for Besiktas as they won 63-51 at Homend Antakya.

LEADING FIVE ALL WIN IN FRENCH LEAGUE

7. Endene Miyem (Tango Bourges)
Endene Miyem'a form for Tango Bourges shows no sign of waning

There was no change to the upper echelons of the LFB after the top five teams all recorded victories.

Tango Bourges remain in pole position after a 96-48 demolition of USO Mondeville which was illuminated by 20 points from Endene Miyem.

Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration also sealed a comfortable win as Geraldine Robert showed her class yet again, by registering 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in an 89-64 home-floor win against Hainaut Basket. Belarus national team guard Katsiaryna Snytsina debuted for BLMA and managed to attain a useful 13 points.

Villeneuve d'Ascq lost ground after falling to Angers in the previous round, but responded by moving past Charleville 80-68 and that kept fourth-placed Basket Landes at bay, even though they took down Nantes Reze 67-57.

Lyon had their starting players to thank for a 95-77 win at Angers, with all five returning double-digits in points, including Croatian center Emilija Podrug who corralled 23 from a super 9-of-11 shooting display.

ZVVZ USK PRAGUE CONTINUE TO DOMINATE

There was no respite for BK Imos Brno against the imperious ZVVZ USK Prague in the ZBL, after their fellow EuroLeague Women competitiors inflicted a fifth straight victory on their opponents.

Center Kia Vaughn snapped up 23 points and 10 rebounds as Natalia Hejkova watched her players win 90-83 on the road to move to a stunning 28-0 domestic record for the season.

In an entertaining match-up, Tereza Peckova landed 24 points for the hosts and did her best to finally land a blow on the chin of the visitors.

But, with Czech national team guard Katerina Elhotova plundering 16 points to support the headline contribution of Vaughn, it just wasn't to be for the home team.

RIVAS SHOW RESILIENCE

6. Frida Eldebrink (Rivas Ecopolis)
Frida Eldebrink and Rivas Ecopolis bounced back from some recent heartbreaking losses with a 79-75 win over Gran Canaria 2014

It has been a difficult week or so for Rivas Ecopolis after suffering Copa De La Reina disappointment prior to being defeated with a buzzer beater at UE Sopron in EuroLeague Women.

However, they showed some real resilience to bounce back with a hard-fought and gutsy 79-75 victory at third-placed Gran Canaria 2014.

Swedish guard Frida Eldebrink foraged 18 points, but it was 23 points and 11 rebounds from forward Rachel Allison which stole the show.

Still in top spot, Perfumerias Avenida strolled to an 86-59 success at Spar Uni Girona as Leonor Rodriguez claimed a game-high 18 points, whilst team-mate Angelica Robinson added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Vanessa Ble, who spent the first part of the season at Galatasaray odeabank deputising for Sancho Lyttle, amassed 15 points and seven rebounds for the losing team.

FAMILA SCHIO IN BOX-SEAT

Beretta Famila Schio are now the outright leaders in the Italian League after fellow challengers Passalacqua Ragusa were defeated 62-57 at Umana Venezia.

American guard Shannon McCallum did the damage with 18 points for the home side and Schio took full advantage by powering their way to a one-sided 88-46 victory at Trogylos Priolo, behind 19 points from veteran Raffaella Masciadri.
