|Marina Kuzina was the top-scorer of a one-sided contest for Sparta&K |
EuroLeague Women Group A leaders Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje opened up their account for 2013 in great style with a ruthless 100-62 demolition of Uni Gyor.
It was a familiar story as far as the visitors were concerned, having been outclassed earlier in the campaign by the Russian giants on their own floor.
Only this time, it was significantly more brutal as Gyor perhaps felt the backlash of the hosts stewing for almost three weeks during the mid-season break off the back of their disappointing loss to Bourges Basket.
Sparta&K were rampant both inside and out, some some interior play around the basket complimented by an array of sharp three-point shooting.
Pokey Chatman watched on intently as her players made 8 of 15 from distance to shoot down Gyor, who struggled from the tip-off to contain the offensive firepower of their opponents.
It was during the second quarter when the floodgates really opened.
Already 22-13 ahead and in control, Sparta&K amassed a mammoth 32 points in the second period and unsurprisingly, it was also one-way traffic after the break when a Marina Kuzina jump-shot made it 67-35.
From that point onwards, Gyor began to go downhill, despite the best efforts of Ieva Kublina who had a respectable 14 point haul.
Rising star Nika Baric fittingly wrapped up the 100 point mark for Sparta&K to cap a fine display, but most importantly, it ended the misery for the Hungarians.
Kuzina top scored with 17 points for the home side who had eleven players find a basket, five in double-digits and also utilised their big-hitters sparingly to further underline their superiority.
