| 19.01.2012 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN | | Croatian point guard Iva Ciglar finished with 32 points and 10 assists, leading Seat Unisze Györ to a comfortable win over VICI Aistes |
In a battle for pride, Uni Seat Györ claimed a 90-70 EuroLeague Women Group A victory over VICI Aistes. Croatia international point guard Iva Ciglar poured in a game-high 32 points and handed out 10 assists for Györ. There were also impressive showings from Quanitra Hollingsworth, who scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Nora Nagy-Bujdosó who had eight points and nine boards. Both sides had already been eliminated from contention for a spot in Round 2. Amanda Kemezys had just buried a jump shot to put VICI Aistes into a 23-22 lead early in the second quarter when Ciglar raced to the other end and made a lay-up and Hollingsworth followed suit on the next trip down the floor. Rasheed connected from behind the arc and Hollingsworth scored again to cap the 9-0 run with Uni Seat on top, 31-23. The hosts took a 47-34 lead to half-time and maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the third quarter and went to the fourth on top, 66-52. VICI Aistes battled, however, and made things interesting in the last frame. A Courtnay Pilypaitis three-ball reduced the deficit to 67-55 and that ignited a 9-0 run that was capped by a Kemezys lay-up. Suddenly, the home side was on top, 67-61. Ciglar came to the rescue, scoring the next nine points in the game and Györ pulled away for a decisive win. Kemezys had a career-high 21 points in defeat. |
