Polkowice Upset Avenida In Salamanca

Debutante Nnemkadi Ogwumike has looked impressive in her first two EuroLeague Women games

CCC Polkowice surprised Perfumerias Avenida in Spain on Tuesday night to claim their first win of the EuroLeague Women campaign.

Nnemkadi Ogwumike poured in 22 points for the Polish side as they recorded a 68-59 victory in Group C.

Beaten at home by Mondeville last week, Polkowice broke open a close game late in the fourth quarter at Perfumerias.

On top 57-55 with just 2:33 remaining, Ogwumike drilled a jump shot and then sank two free-throws to push the lead to six.

Spain's Laia Palau, a member of the Ros Casares title-winning side of last season, then made three of four free-throw attempts to extend the advantage to 64-55 with just 40 seconds to go.

There was no way back for Perfumerias, who were led by Nicole Powell's 14 points and eight rebounds.

Palau and Valeriya Musina each weighed in with 11 points for the visitors.

Perfumerias' next game is at Mondeville in France while Polkowice are at home to Galatasaray.
