GAME REPORT  | | Sandrine Gruda recorded her first double-double of the season |
A couple of sublime performances from UMMC Ekaterinburg forward duo Candace Parker and Sandrine Gruda handed their team a convincing 85-67 win at CCC Polkowice to extend their unbeaten run. The leaders of EuroLeague Women Group C and recently crowned Russian Cup winners were just about out of sight after a one-sided second quarter, which they dominated after out-scoring Polkowice 24-10 to take complete control of the game. Once Ekat finished the first-half with a devastating 18-4 burst to lead 49-31, the writing was already on the wall for the Polish hosts. To their credit, they did fight hard when they returned from the locker rooms, managing to reduce the arrears to 65-58 early in the final quarter, but Ekat simply put their foot back on the accelerator and eased away again in the closing stages. Gruda was exceptional with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, whilst Parker continued in the rich vein of form which has characterised one of her best seasons in the competition and also led to her being named MVP at the Russian Cup Final Four last weekend. She finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists, with Diana Taurasi contributing 18 points and nine assists. Belinda Snell poured in 20 points for Polkowice before fouling out of the game. |
