A pair of stunning 24-point displays from Delisha Milton-Jones and Melisa Can helped Tarsus Belediye to only their second win of the campaign in EuroLeague Women Group A as they powered their way to an 80-71 success against short-handed Uni Gyor. With a trio of frontcourt players having all departed the Hungarian club recently, it was unsurprising that experienced Tarsus forward duo relished going up against the visitors, as they each claimed double-doubles. Milton-Jones pulled down 11 rebounds and Can grabbed 12 boards and also shot a sensational 73.3% from the floor to propel Tarsus to a rare victory. Without Ieva Kublina, Chalysa Shegog and Nora Nagy-Budjoso, Gyor struggled and fell to a sixth loss of the season, whilst in stark contrast, the hosts made light work of scoring inside and were always in the ascendancy from the second period onwards. Gyor had taken a somewhat surprise early lead at 20-15, but then went into meltdown as Tarsus completed a brilliant 20-2 burst of scoring either side of the first and second quarter break. Once in control, Tarsus managed to keep Gyor at arms' length until the last period when led by playmaker Natalie Hurst who claimed a superb 26 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals, Gyor wagged their tail a little. Down 70-48 at the end of the third, they outscored Tarsus 15-2, but the wobble by the home side wasn't fatal as they shrugged off their drought to recover and take the win. Although unfortunately for Erdal Yegin and his players, their chances of making the post-season had already evaporated. |
