Tarsus Agonisingly Edged Out By Bourges

Bourges' Endene Miyem sealed the final result from the free throw line

Tarsus Belediye came within a whisker of claiming a first ever EuroLeague Women success but were agonisingly squeezed out 65-61 by Bourges in a dramatic Group A encounter.

With both teams well matched and preferring to put the ball in the hands of their respective frontcourt players, it was a classic war of attrition in the paint which Bourges eventually shaded as Tarsus reflected on a glorious opportunity to make history slipping away.

Led by the outstanding Melisa Can who continues to be the one Tarsus player who has truly excelled since the start of the season, they kept pace with Bourges throughout the game, even getting their noses in font 34-33 at the break.

The French visitors then made a bid to move clear and when young center Christelle Diallo made a basket inside, they found themselves 47-41 in front.

But, Tarsus showed great resilience and fought their way back to set up a tense and exciting finale as Amaya Valdemoro got them to within a point at 61-62 with 90 seconds remaning.

However, foul trouble proved costly as Can fouled out having contributed a super 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Bourges kept their composure from the free-throw line to seal a crucial road win with Frida Eldebrink sinking three priceless triples on her way to 18 points.
