Hana Horakova had a winning debut with Good Angels Kosice against Lattes Montpellier on Wednesday. The Czech international, one of the most famous players in Europe who joined Kosice from UMMC Ekaterinburg this week, helped her new team win 70-61 to seal third place in Group C. Danielle McCray, Good Angels' 24-year-old shooting guard, made all three of her shots from long range and scored a team-high 24 points as Kosice improved to 8-5. Horakova, the 2010 FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year after leading her side to the world title, played just under 19 minutes and scored seven points. Lattes Montpellier's Edwige Lawson couldn't have done much more offensively. She buried all five of her shots from the arc and finished with a game-high 26 points. The French team, with Lawson having scored 18 points, only trailed 42-41 with 7:21 to go in the third quarter. Horakova scored on a fast break for her last points of the game and then McCray drilled one of her three-balls. Lucia Kupcikova and Anna Jurcenkova followed with baskets for a 51-42 Kosice advantage. The French team reduced the arrears to six in the fourth quarter but with 4:37 to go, Miljana Bojovic buried a three-pointer and that calmed the home side's nerves. |
