Sparta&K Moscow Region Vidnoje rode a strong start to victory in their EuroLeague Women home game against Gospic Croatia on Wednesday. In the uncustomary position of having just a single win from their opening three games, Pokey Chatman's team returned home to Russia and rolled to an 86-68 triumph in Group C. With Seimone Augustus pouring in six points, the hosts led 10-4 less just 3:30 into the contest. After Jelena Ivezic buried a three-ball to cut the gap to three, Sparta&K scored 10 unanswered points. Candice Dupree (two), Jelena Milovanovic and Marina Kuzina had baskets in that run and Irina Osipova also added two free-throws. The advantage was 23-13 by the end of the first quarter and 46-26 by half-time. Sparta&K, upset by Rivas Ecopolis last week in Madrid, coasted in the second half to a resounding triumph that has left Gospic 1-3 on the young campaign. Augustus and Dupree each had 12 points to lead a balanced Sparta&K attack. Sandra Mandir had 20 points in defeat for Gospic. |
