UMMC Ekaterinburg got rid of the bad taste of their fourth-quarter collapse against Ros Casares last week with a convincing home triumph over Uni Seat Györ. Algirdas Paulauskas' side took command of the EuroLeague Women Group A clash midway through the first quarter against the visitors from Hungary and claimed a 97-60 victory. Candace Parker led the scoring parade with 19 points for UMMC. Seven players in all reached double digits in points for Ekaterinburg. The hosts led 10-8 with 5:41 remaining in the opening frame when they landed blows that Györ would not recover from. Olga Arteshina connected from long range to start a 21-8 run to end the first quarter. Several UMMC players scored in that decisive spurt. To remove any hope of a Uni Seat comeback, Ekaterinburg reeled off the first 13 points of the second quarter for a 44-16 lead with 5:52 to go in the period. By half-time, the lead was 58-29 and three-quarter time, it was 76-52. The Russian team coasted to victory over the last 10 minutes to improve to 5-2 in Group A and drop Györ to 1-6. |
