|Back home in Croatia: Jelena Ivezic |
After initially looking like she might slip through the net, Croatian national team star Jelena Ivezic has penned a deal with WBC Novi Zagreb and can't wait to boost their EuroLeague Women hopes.
The forward returns to her homeland having previously starred for Gospic Croatia, prior to spending two years playing in Turkey with Ceyhan Belediye and then Homend Antakya, where she participated in EuroCup Women earlier this season.
The 29-year-old is now relishing stepping back into EuroLeague Women and helping her new club improve upon their solitary success so far to make a potential push for the knockout phase.
She said, "I thank the management and the coach.
"My job is to play at the highest level and enjoy the basketball with this team.
"It is known that the goals of every player are to give everything, to fight for the club, cheer each other and be together.
"Teamwork and mutual trust will achieve the best results," added Ivezić on her arrival in the Croatian capital."
Meanwhile after also adding Elina Babkina and Ana Semren, Vice-President of the club, Dragan Crnjak expressed his satisfaction with landing Ivezic, who has averaged double-digits for her country at four successive major tournaments.
He said, "We are proud that Jelena recognised project that we have launched and we believe that she is the player who can make the club finally glow.
"The management of Novi Zagreb has done all that is possible at this point to be a competitive team in EuroLeague Women and to be the pride of all our fans and the people of Zagreb.
"Only top players provide a superb result in Europe and now we have those players.
"There is not much time and we have to work fast with challenges awaiting us on four fronts in the Croatian Cup, Croatian Championship, Middle European League and EuroLeague Women."
The Croatians resume their participation in EuroLeague Women with a home game against joint Group C leaders ZVVZ USK Prague on 15 January.
