It continues to be a dream season for Good Angels Kosice who took outright ownership of top spot in EuroLeague Women Group B with a hard-fought 66-63 success against Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce.
In a defence orientated physical game, neither team could sustain any real fluidity or offensive rhythm, despite a bright opening which witnessed the home team moving 20-17 in front.
Defence became very much the order of the day and with both clubs locked at the top of the table going into the game, it was unsurprising that what unfolded was an intense battle concerned with fine margins.
For long spells, there was barely a single beam of daylight between the sides, although Kosice did make a move during the third period when a basket by Plenette Pierson put them 50-43 ahead.
By the time Allie Quigley had converted early in the final quarter, the hosts had managed to increase their advantage by a point at 57-49, although they would soon stumble upon a worrying offensive drought.
That allowed Fener to bridge the gap quickly and an 11-4 run finished by an Agnieszka Bibrzycka three-pointer got them back to within a point at 61-60.
But, in a nail-biting finale, Kosice managed to keep their composure from the free-throw line and converting 13-of-14 proved to be priceless in such a close game.
Turning the tables on their opponent, they limited Fenerbahce to just three further points during the last four minutes to sneak the win - although they had to survive last-gasp three-point efforts by Cappie Pondexter and Ivana Matovic which would have forced overtime.
Tijana Krivacevic claimed a double-digit score for the third game in a row with 12 points for the winning team and Esmeral Tuncluer had a similarly tidy 12-point display for Fenerbahce who fell to their third defeat of the season.
