Perfumerias Avenida completed a memorable 79-77 EuroLeague Women Group C win against the previously unbeaten ZVVZ USK Prague in a nail-biting contest in Salamanca.

The regulars at Pabellon Wurzburg were treated to an absorbing clash as the home favourites showed real heart to come back from a poor start.

Avenida were down 17-6 against the group leaders and had to dig deep to avoid the worrying prospect of another first-half blowout, having suffered the same fate in their previous game at Sparta&K.

But, behind a 25-point performance by Eshaya Murphy, they hauled themselves back into contention with an excellent 26-18 second period which gave them a one-point lead after twenty minutes.

Both teams then struggled to put any daylight between each other until the final quarter, when Layshia Clarendon made it 68-62 to the visitors.

It looked like the game was slipping away from Avenida, but they rallied with a magnificent 15-3 run.

And, despite not scoring in the last 90 seconds of the game, they survived to take a fine victory, with Croatian center Marija Rezan weighing in with a critical 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Spanish veteran Laia Palau had a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists on her return to her homeland, whilst Jelena Dubljevic top-scored for the losing side with 21 points.

It was a disappointing landmark night for Prague shooter Eva Viteckova, who drew level with Alena Kovacova in joint second place for the all-time number of EuroLeague Women appearances.
