Cras Basket Taranto stayed alive in the hunt for the Round 2 places in the EuroLeague Women with an 81-69 upset of Group C leaders Wisla Can-Pack Krakow. The Italians hosted the encounter and broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to claim their fifth win. Kia Vaughn equalled her season-high of 20 points and also corralled 11 rebounds for Taranto. Cras are now in sixth place - a win behind Lattes Montpellier. Wisla went into the contest as the Group C leaders. They fell to 9-3 - the same mark as Sparta&K Moscow Region. Trailing 57-56 in the fourth quarter, Angela Gianolla pulled up for a fast-break jump shot and drilled it to put Taranto in front. A pair of Magdalena Leciejewska free-throws later tied the game at 59-59 for Wisla. Megan Mahoney then put the hosts in front for good. A member of the Rest of the World team at last year's EuroLeague Women All Star Game, Mahoney made two free-throws and then nailed a three-pointer on the team's ensuing possession for a 64-59 lead. After Ewelina Kobryn replied for Wisla, Taranto's Michelle Greco hit a jumper to start a 7-0 run for a 71-62 Taranto lead. The result was never in doubt after, with Roberto Ricchini's side claiming a 12-point triumph. |
