GAME REPORT

Lee Lifts Siauliai To Narrow Victory

7. Jonathan Lee (BC Siauliai)
Jonathan Lee iced the final result from the free-throw line

Jonathan Lee's free throw with 17 seconds left proved the difference as BC Siauliai edged out BC Enisey 93-92 in their EuroChallenge opener in Group H.

An intense game went right down to the wire as the visitors closed an eight-point gap in the final four minutes to tie it up.

But Lee then went to the line and, after missing his first free throw, held his nerve to sink the second.

There was still time for Enisey to set up a shot for Pavel Sergeev, but it bounced clear to confirm Siauliai's win.

It was a thrilling finish to a game which saw 11 lead changes and seven ties.

Enisey trailed 88-80 with 4:00 to go, but Donell Cooper's three sparked a recovery.

It was 90-88 when Cooper completed a three-point play from the line, 2:09 from time, and level at 92-92 when Andrey Komarovskiy made a pair of free throws for the visitors 29 ticks from time.

Lee then nosed the hosts in front and they made it count.

Vytautas Sulskis led Siauliai with 19 points, while Matynas Linkevicius and Ryan Olander had 16 each.

Cooper had 22 points for the visitors.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: BC Siauliai vs. BC Enisey Krasnoyarsk Territory

Gediminas Petrauskas, BC Siauliai Head Coach
"One of the main reasons for our success was that fortune was on our side. We had a good lead and that helped us hold them off. We didn't play good defence, they scored 92 points, so we need to improve it. The opponents are a very experienced team, so I'm happy that many of their points came not from their plays, but from individual skills."

Vytautas Sulskis, BC Siauliai
"I'm in euphoria - it was my first game in an European competition, and we gained the victory. We are pro players, we understand that names don't play on the court, players do."

Stevan Karadzic, BC Enisey Head Coach
"We played good defence for around the first few minutes. It's hard to play against a team like BC Siauliai, because it doesn't matter how tall they are, what position they play - everyone can shoot. Also, our opponents played much better in the fastbreak. We made lots of mistakes. We were behind for the most of the game, and it's sad that the last shot didn't fall in."

Kosta Perovic, BC Enisey
"In this game, we had lots of ups and downs. To be a better team we need to play more stable basketball. We did not play good defence and that was the main reason we lost. We knew that they play pick and roll well, but we did not defend it well. We tried to play in the post as much as we could, but could not do it for the whole game, especially in the end, and that definetely did not help us."
