Triumph Lyubertsy overcame a slow start to open their EuroChallenge Group D campaign with a comfortable 90-74 victory over Kormend.

The visitors started the game on fire offensively and had built a 27-14 lead with 1:37 to go in the first quarter, but Triumph soon found a way to slow them down and once they had, they steadily moved in front and pulled away.

Courdon Higgins scored 20 points to lead them to victory while Milovan Rakovic added 19 with eight rebounds and Jeremy Chappell scored 18.

But it was all Kormend in the early going as Csaba Ferencz hit a three-pointer and Jeremy Fears followed it with two free throws that made it 11-4, while another long-ball from Ferencz had them 20-8 up midway through the period.

Free throws from Fears gave them a 13-point lead but Triumph finished the first period on a 5-0 run and demonstrated they had truly turned the corner with a 13-2 burst early in the second which put them 32-30 up on Rakovic's lay-up.

Kormend briefly nosed in front once more with three-pointers from Bela Sonyak and Ferencz, but after Chappell ended the first half with a jumper that put Triumph up 45-44, the lead was theirs for good.

They made certain of that by scoring the first eight points of the second half and the continuing to ease away, enjoying their biggest lead when Higgins' three made it 77-57 early in the final quarter.

Kyle Landry also reached double figures for Triumph with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Ferencz and Devon Moore finished with 18 points each for Kormend while Fears added 17.
