FIP President Gianni Petrucci presents Andrea Cinciarini with the Final Four MVP award

Andrea Cinciarini of EuroChallenge champions Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia was named on Sunday night the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 edition of the Final Four, in Bologna.

The 27-year-old Italian international was voted by a panel of experts that included mainly the accredited media at the big event.

The Reggio Emilia playmaker paved the way to his team's 66-55 win over Royal Hali Gaziantep in Friday's semi-final with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, while he also dished out six assists.

In the big final on Sunday, Cinciarini collected seven points, seven assists and three rebounds as the Italian side celebrated the 79-65 win over Triumph Lyubertsy that crowned them champions.

"I think that maybe the stat lines don't show Cinciarini's work and leadership," commented Reggio Emilia head coach Masssimiliano Menetti.

"For me, he dominated the rhythm in both these games on Friday and Sunday.

"Maybe his stats today (in the final) were so-and-so, but he had the ball in his hands all the time and stayed focused, making the right choices.

"The stats do not always show a great player and Cinciarini in these two games, played for the team, scoring when he had to score and passing when he had to pass."

Cinciarini averaged 12 points, 6.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals in this EuroChallenge season, dishing out more assists than any other player whose team reached the Final Four.

"We trust him with the ball, we trust him with the decisions, we believe in him and he's lived up to the expectations," team-mate Rimantas Kaukenas said of Cinciarini.

"He is a kid that works really hard, doing extra work after every practice.

"That's the only way you earn leadership skills and a point guard has to be a leader for the team and lead the team by example.

"He's done an excellent job with everything the coaches and we the players asked him to do, keep his composure and guide the team to win this.

"I think he deserves this more than anybody."
