BC Zepter Vienna have failed to topple the Kings of Sodertalje in their first European outing, with the Swedes starting their 2013/14 EuroChallenge campaign with an 82-73 win.

Travelling to Sweden for their EuroChallenge debut, Vienna showed no signs of early nerves, keeping up with their hosts throughout the opening frame before a Toni Bizaca three on the buzzer gave the Kings a seven-point, 23-16 lead.

The Kings' lead disintegrated as rapidly as it had arrived in the second frame as Nenad Sulovic came up with 11 points in six minutes to have Vienna trailing by two before providing the assist on a Arnas Labuckas three to give the guests a one-point lead.

The Kings then struggled to shake off their visitors who, with just over three minutes remaining in the penultimate period, had the scores tied at 49.

However, it was at that point that Mantas Griskenas took the Kings on their decisive run, leading them on a 10-0 spurt which put them ahead 59-49 with 17 seconds to play in the third.

Vienna, who despite staying round in the final frame, could never completely recover from their third quarter defensive lapse, eventually conceding the nine-point win.

Croatian Bizaca was the best of the Kings, ending with 21 points. Challenging his spot atop the throne with 16 points was John Roberson - one point more than Martin Pahlmblad, whilst Griskenas completed an all-round performance with 14 points and eight boards.

The best in a losing effort came from Nikola Pavlicevic who led all scoring with 25 points.
