GAME REPORT

Skyliners Soar To Victory

30. Justin Cobbs (Fraport Skyliners)
Justin Cobbs's scoring brought the Fraport Skyliners a victory against Tartu Rock

Fraport Skyliners used a late 24-5 run to race clear to a 92-73 victory over Tartu Rock that sees them improve to 3-1 in Group K of the EuroChallenge Last 16.

A tight game had seen neither team enjoy a lead of more than seven points in the first three quarters, but a 9-0 spurt that began late in the third proved to be the start of a much bigger burst which broke the backs of Tartu.

By the time Justin Cobbs sank a pair of free throws with 4:54 remaining, Skyliners were leading 76-61 and on their way to victory.

They did not ease off, and an 11-0 spurt made it 92-69 on Cobbs' three-pointer with 48 seconds remaining.

It had been Cobbs who started the decisive run with a lay-up late in the third quarter.

Michael Morrison's lay-up drew the teams level, and Konstantin Klein's three-pointer early in the third made it 68-57.

A three-point play from Augustas Peciukevicius with 3:37 to go kept Tartu alive, down 81-69, but they were plagued by turnovers as Skyliners finished them off with the final run.

Johannes Voigtmann led Skyliners with 26 points while Cobbs finished with 20.

Janar Talts had 19 points in vain for Tartu, who fall to 1-3.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Fraport Skyliners vs. Tartu Rock

Gert Kullamäe, Head Coach Tartu Rock
"Congratulations to Frankfurt and coach Herbert. They deserved to win this game. The first three quarters we played really good, especially on defence. But in the fourth quarter we sometimes lost our focus and Frankfurt shot really well. They also made some difficult shots. Giving up 35 points in ten minutes is obviously too much on the road against a good team like Frankfurt."

Janar Talts, Tartu Rock
"It was a very difficult game for us. The game was close for three quarters, we even had the lead. In the fourth quarter it was like a party for Frankfurt. They played smart and made their shots. It was a tough and disappointing loss. The next game against Sararov is at home and we will go 100% to win that game. Every game is important for us now."

Gordon Herbert, Head Coach Fraport Skyliners
"You have to give a lot of credit to Tartu and coach Kullamäe. They fought really hard, the game was a real battle and they outworked us. They played better than we did for 30 minutes. But in the last ten minutes we found a good combination on the court. We played better, our ball movement was better, our defence was better as was our rebounding. This is a big win for us as our next two EuroChallenge games are on the road."

Johannes Voigtmann, Fraport Skyliners
"After the win against Berlin last Sunday this game could have gone in two directions. And it kind of did, too. In the first half we did not play well, but at halftime we said, that we want to rebound better and do the little things more concentrated. It worked out and so we got the win."
