GAME REPORT

Den Bosch Win On The Buzzer

5. Reginald Johnson (SPM Shoeters)
Reginald Johnson collected a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double for Den Bosch

SPM Shoeters Den Bosch snatched a dramatic 78-77 win over Tartu Rock for their first victory in Group K of the EuroChallenge Last 16.

Tartu blew a 15-point first-half lead as the teams scrapped over every point down the stretch.

It went to the final seconds, but Augustas Peciukevicius blew it by missing two free throws with three seconds left, and Brandyn Curry made him and Tartu pay on the buzzer.

When Valmo Kriisa hit a three-pointer early in the second period, Tartu led 34-19, but Den Bosch responded with a 10-2 run to get back in touch, and continued to chip away before nosing in front in the third period.

Curry opened the fourth quarter with two free throws to put Den Bosch 66-60 ahead.

Three-pointers from Kriisa and Tanel Sokk helped Tartu come back, and they were tied at 70-70 with 2:14 to go.

The teams traded blows, with Arvin Slagter's three giving Den Bosch a 76-74 edge before Kriisa responded in kind as Tartu nosed ahead by a single point with 42 seconds remaining.

Den Bosch allowed 26 seconds to come off the clock before Slagter missed a three and, although Reginald Johnson grabbed the offensive rebound, he turned it over and Curry was forced to foul with three ticks left.

Peciukevicius should have iced it but he missed both free throws and Den Bosch raced to the other end where Curry's jump shot gave them the win.

Curry finished with 20 points while Johnson had 17 and 11 rebounds.

Kriisa led Tartu with 21 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: SPM Shoeters vs. Tartu Rock

Sam Jones, SPM Shoeters Head Coach
"I like the way Tartu played. The pace they play at is a high pace. It was tough to defend it. In the second half we tried to take that pace down and it worked. The first quarter it looked like we played with cement in our shoes, they got past us really easily. We couldn't slow them down; they were basically running circles around us."

Brandyn Curry, SPM Shoeters
"That was a thrilling game, a lot of ups and downs. I give credits to Tartu; they played really well. We did a great job carrying the ball today. We were down 17 one time, but we didn't give up. It came down to a one-possession game and we came out on top of it."

Gert Kullamäe, Tartu Rock Head Coach
"There were two difficult moments in the game. Our start was very good, but Kees Akerboom brought them back in the game with two tough shots. At the end we missed two free throws. And then (Brandyn) Curry made a tough shot. We have three games left, two at home, so we have a good chance to make the next round."

Valmo Kriisa, Tartu Rock
"It was a tough game. We started very well and it looked like it was going to be our game. (Kees) Akerboom shot them back in the game. We lost our rhythm and our confidence was gone, too. At the end it was a lottery in which they got lucky. We needed this game, so it's tough for us."
