San Antonio Spurs star Beno Udrih will be fully focused on helping Slovenia clinch a place at next year’s European Championships when qualification begins in September.
Udrih has been playing in the American summer league but will head into qualification matches against France, Poland and Czech Republic with only one thing in mind.
“The summer league games were great for me. I gave my maximum and now I am an NBA player.
“Now all my focus is on the national team and to earn a place in the next European Championships.”
However, not all Slovenia’s USA-based players are as keen as Udrih.
LA Lakers’ Aleksander Vujacic refused to turn out for his national team, preferring to concentrate on his club.
Slovenia coach Ales Pipan said: “All this time I have wanted players in the national team who want to play for the national team.
“He told me that he played so much during the summer league in the USA that now his intention is to prepare for next season with LA Lakers.”
