Pecs ended Samara's 19-game EuroLeague Women streak on Wednesday, beating the 2005 champions 80-68 victory in Pecs.
Samara ruled supreme in 2004/2005 winning all 18 of their games on the way to the title. They opened this season with an easy victory against Dexia Namur, but faced a much more difficult prospect in Pecs in front of 4,500 fans.
Pecs have made the Final Four the past two seasons, but have yet to get past the semi-final stage.
However, the addition of US guard Vickie Johnson may be the x-factor the side need to clinch their first European silverware. Johnson was a key performer in Pecs' win, contributing 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and earns the Player of the Week award.
The 178 cm guard forms an impressive backcourt with Hungarian star Dalma Ivanyi, who had 10 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in the win.
Johnson gives Pecs an extra offensive dimeson with her scoring and passing ability. Pecs have averaged 78.5 points and 19 assists (second among all teams) so far in the EuroLeague Women. Johnson is also willing to mix it up inside and five of her rebounds against Samara came at the offensive end.
