|Anna Shchetina had 11 points and nine boards for Russia|
The Czech Republic had an ideal opportunity to enhance their chances of making it to the quarter-finals of the U18 European Championship Women but a disastrous final period resulted in a 60-48 reverse to Russia who took a fourth-straight win.
The Czechs had looked destined for a critical success in their bid to make it to the last eight when they were leading 45-40 heading into the last period but they imploded in spectacular fashion.
They lost their way completely and were outscored 20-3 by the Russians as the wheels came tumbling off.
Indeed the Czech Republic had worked hard to get themselves within striking distance of the win since they had trailed 17-10 after 10 minutes of action, but two much-improved middle quarters looked to have changed the course of the game.
They were helped by some smart perimeter shooting by Eva Mouckova and Aneta Mainclova who eventually walked off court one rebound short of a double-double.
But, their offence deserted them when they were well-set and consequently the pendulum swung viciously in the favour of Russia.
They had Anna Schetina grab 11 points and nine rebounds although head coach Olga Shuneykina is likely to have had one eye on 22 rebounds as an area for improvement.
