The Slovak Republic avenged their heavy 32-point away loss to Hungary on the opening day of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round by registering a crucially important 79-67 victory at home on Tuesday.

The result turns the race for first spot in Group D into a two-horse affair between the Slovak Republic and Belarus, while Hungary have finished on a 1-3 record and are knocked out of contention.

On Tuesday, the Slovaks came out guns blazing and did all the work during the first half, as they scored the first 13 points in the clash and grabbed a 15-point lead (43-28) over their shell-shocked guests by the half-time buzzer.

The hosts took advantage of their superiority on the glass during the first twenty minutes, as they out-rebounded Hungary 23-11 and scored 10 second-chance points during that period to build their advantage.

Hungary balanced the battle of the boards in the second half, but the Slovaks maintained the gap at double-digit levels with ease, thanks to their excellent shooting from long range.

Their three-point shooting percentage dropped below 50 percent in the last three minutes of the encounter, but by that time they had already drilled 10 valuable triples which demoralised Hungary and prevented them from attempting a comeback in earnest.

Slovakia's Michal Batka went 4-for-9 from three-point range and led all scorers with 19 points, adding five rebounds, while Peter Dorazil converted all seven of his shots from two-point range and finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Adám Tóth had 12 points and four rebounds for Hungary in a losing effort, while three of his team-mates finished with 11 points each.
