|Guy Pnini top-scored for Israel with 16 points|
Israel kept the Netherlands to just four points in the final 14 minutes of their Wednesday encounter to pick up a hard-earned 66-57 victory on the road on Day 2 of EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round Group B.
This was the first success for Israel in the competition and they are now tied at 1-1 with the Netherlands in the group standings.
Worthy De Jong, with a lay-up 4:24 from the end of the third quarter, tied the scores at 53 but that was as much scoring as Israel were willing to allow the Dutch until very late into the next period.
As both teams struggled offensively, Guy Pnini hit a triple with just eight seconds remaining in the third to bring Israel ahead 58-53.
Lior Eliyahu with a hook-shot early on in the fourth and Pnini again with another triple 7:42 from the final buzzer, gave Israel a vital 10-point cushion, 63-53.
As the Dutch kept turning the ball over or taking bad shots, Gal Mekel drove to the basket and finished with a lay-up to make it 65-53 for Israel with 4:47 left to play.
More than 12 minutes had elapsed since De Jong had scored the last Dutch basket, when the same player finally ended the draught with a lay-up 2:17 from the final buzzer, but it was too little too late.
While the two teams committed roughly the same amount of turnovers, Israel were the beneficiaries as they scored 18 good-as-gold points off Dutch mistakes.
Pnini paved the way for the guests with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Eliyahu added 13 points and four boards.
For the Netherlands, Roeland Schaftenaar had 12 points and six rebounds and Nick Oudendag registered a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards in defeat.
