Denmark Hold Off Ukraine
Denmark held off a late Ukraine rally to prevail 90-85 in their EuroBasket qualifier on Saturday.
Chanan Colman poured in 21 points for the Danes who built the win largely in the third quarter with the game locked at 40-40 at the midway point.
The Danes took the third period 26-17 with Frederik Nielsen's three-pointer late in the quarter seeing them press home their advantage.
Although the Ukrainians managed to get four points back in the final quarter it was not enough to change the outcome.
With 36 seconds remaining, Colman's two free throws made the score 86-80 but Ukraine quickly brought that back to 86-83 with three successful free throw conversions from four.
Adama Darbo then gave Denmark breathing space with two more from the charity stripe and then he scored a layup to make it 90-84.
Rostyslav Kryvych made one more free throw for the Ukrainians to take his personal haul to a game-high 29, albeit in a losing cause.
Nicolai Iversen had a game-high eight boards for the Danes.
