|The returning Zane Tamane did the damage in the paint against Portugal|
The frontcourt duo combined for 35 points and 13 rebounds to put Portugal to the sword, with the latter back in a national team vest having announced her retirement early last year.
It was actually the visitors who enjoyed the better of the early part of the game, a three-point play from Daniela Domingues handing them a 25-20 advantage.
But, the middle two quarters were dominated by Latvia as they made their height and presence in the paint count.
They took control either side of the interval with a 14-0 run in the third quarter changing the momentum.
And,when Kate Kreslina converted from deep late in the period to make it 57-35, it looked like Portugal were done and dusted.
But, they posted a morale-boosting final quarter to perhaps even take the gloss off the victory for their opponents, who having been 22 points ahead, watched the arrears trimmed by more than half.
Domingues was the top pick for Portugal with 12 points.
