Duo Shoot Poland Into The Last Four

The Polish team huddles up (Poland)
Poland are the first team through to the semi-finals after winning Group C in undefeated fashion

Magdalena Leciejewska and Agnieszka Szott-Hejmej propelled Poland to a 65-56 success against Finland to secure first place in Group C and grab a semi-final place in the EuroBasket Women 2015 1st Qualification Round.

Following on from their opening day success against Belgium, the Poles made it two from two, thanks mainly to Leciejewska, who finished one rebound short of a double-double after scoring a game-high 16 points.

Szott-Hejmej, her fellow partner in crime in the paint, helped wrap up the victory by contributing a similarly impressive 15 points and seven rebounds.

It had looked like Poland would romp to victory in something of a one-sided spell either side of the interval, which witnessed them establish what looked to be an unassailable 18-point lead.

When Leciejewska made it 49-31 early in the third quarter to seal a 10-point unanswered run, it looked like Poland already had one foot in the last four of the competition.

But, Finland came roaring back at the start of the fourth quarter to get the home crowd believing once again and Poland rattled.

Still trailing 53-41, they managed to score 11 points without reply, as a free throw from Tina Sten brought them to within one point.

With a point still separating the team with less than four minutes remaining, Poland regained their composure and finished strongly to ease their way to the win.

Heta Korpivaara stood out for the losing team with an efficient 13 points.
