GAME REPORT

Wisla, Quigley Take Down BLMA

22. Alexandria Quigley (Wisla Can-Pack)
Allie Quigley was inspirational in Wisla Can-Pack's win over BLMA
Allie Quigley fired 23 points for Wisla Can-Pack as they signed off their EuroLeague Women regular season in Krakow with a 72-48 Group C win against Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration.

The guard led the way for the Polish outfit as they shrugged off a tight first half, to completely dominate their opponents in a rampant last fifteen minutes.

Still without the kind of firepower they had during the first half of the season, BLMA were unable to keep pace with Wisla once the home side finally began to get into their stride during the third period.

With continual lead changes for more than half of the encounter, it was actually the visitors who led 34-33, but the wheels then came flying off in a big way for Valery Demory and his team.

Wisla exploded and led by Quigley, they outscored BLMA by 29-9 across the third and fourth quarter break to set themselves firmly on the road to victory.

Justyna Zurowska played a nice cameo with 16 points and eight rebounds, whilst center Jantel Lavender accumulated her customary double-double of 14 points and 17 rebounds.

Geraldine Robert stood out as usual for Montpellier with an efficient 15 point haul.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Wisla Can-Pack vs. Lattes Montpellier

Valery Demory, BLMA coach:

“We tried to win and until half time we were competitive but in the second half Wisla started to play quicker and dominated the game. I had the chance to let my young player participate too. Congratulations to Wisla.”

Gunta Basko, BLMA:

“Congratulations to Wisla. We lost the game that was our last EuroLeague Women game of the season.”

Stefan Svitek, Wisla Can-Pack coach:

“We played a very poor first half. Maybe knowing that we need to win with a  high result to avoid Orenburg my players were too nervous. They missed so many easy shots. The second half was better and the last quarter was quite good. Had we played the entire game like that we could have won with a margin larger than 24 points. Now it is the time to think about the Polish League, Polish Cup F4, and the game in Orenburg. When you want to play in EuroLeague F8 you must be able to win the games against such good teams like Fenerbahce or Orenburg. We lost all 4 games versus those teams. We will fight in Orenburg to win.”

Allie Quigley, Wisla Can-Pack

“I am sorry it was not enough to avoid that long and difficult travel to Orenburg. Like the coach said we played a very poor first half and I do not understand what happened to us. The second half was better and we hope to come back to play much better like [we did] at the beginning of the season.”
