GAME REPORT

Stunning Györ End Wisla Streak

8. Justyna Zurowska (Wisla Can-Pack)
Justyna Zurowska's efforts were not enough for Wisla Can-Pack against the determined hosts

Uni Györ produced their most impressive performance so far in EuroLeague Women Group A with a fantastic 83-67 home success against Wisla Can-Pack which brought their opponents’ four game winning streak to an abrupt end.

Australian guard Natalie Hurst was the architect of the stunning victory, finishing on 21 points, five rebounds and three assists from eight of ten floor shooting.

The playmaker helped Györ grab the initiative in the second quarter which they used as a springboard to post a vibrant 19-9 third period which effectively won them the game.

Györ returned to the court after the interval with a real verve, and blasted their way into a double-figure lead to leave Wisla standing.

Eleven points without reply including successive scores at the hoop by Ieva Kublina, put Györ 56-43 in front, and once there, they always looked like they would keep the visitors at arms' length.

This was particular the case with the usually irrepressible Tina Charles having a rare off-night, and once Rita Rasheed dropped a three-ball in the fourth quarter to take the margin out to 20 points, the game was over for Wisla.

The win takes Györ level with their rivals on a 4-4 record and in addition to the stand-out contribution of Hurst, Latvian centre Kublina had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Justyna Zurowska was the best performer for the losing team with 16 points and four assists.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Uni Györ vs. Wisla Can-Pack

Ákos Fűzy, Uni Györ coach:
"This was a very important victory for us. The plan was to hold Tina Charles, which we did; her stats reflect, that she lagged behind her usual average. My team focused on double defence tactics until the end. Brilliant individual performances and changes from the bench all contributed to the result."

Jose Ignacio Hernandez, Wisla Can-Pack coach:
"Győr was much better than Wisla tonight, managing to stay focused until the end. Our defensive game was a disaster and a glance at the stats proves that our hosts outplayed us across the board. Their domination in rebounds sealed our fate, so we must win at least two-three of our remaining games [to qualify]."

Anna Laklóth, Uni Györ:
"We came out to play using very good tactics and stuck to them until the end. Also, we never doubted that we could win."

Dóra Horti, Wisla Can-Pack:
"Congratulations to Győr! With the defence we played, it’'s impossible to win a match; that was our major problem. A good team sees and exploits an opportunity like that and this is exactly what Győr did."
