CCC Polkowice have a fresh injection of quality for the coming season after signing EuroLeague Women champion Laia Palau.

The Spain international, who captained Ros Casares in 2011-12 and led them to titles in both the Liga Femenina and the EuroLeague, has penned a deal for the 2012-13 campaign.

Polkowice announced Palau's signing on Friday.

"It's a great thing," CCC Polkowice president Krzysztof Korsak said.

"Laia is one of Europe's most recognizable basketball players.

"Last season, she had a major impact on the way we played the EuroLeague champions, Ros Casares Valencia, and we all remember how beautiful and successful the basketball team played in Spain.

"The transfer of Laia is a major strengthening of our team."

Palau, 32, is famous not only for her time at Ros Casares and formerly with Bourges in France, but also with Spain's national team.

In 2004, Palau buried a long, game-tying three-pointer in the Spaniards' opening game at the Athens Olympics to force overtime against the Czech Republic and her team then won the contest.

The victory sparked the national team on a run to the Quarter-Finals.

She has been an impressive figure at numerous EuroBaskets as well, including 2007 in Chieti when she helped her country capture a silver medal.

Palau only just helped Spain successfully navigate a tricky EuroBasket Women Qualification Round campaign.

"We're very happy that the fans in Polkowice will be able to watch such a good athlete," Korsak said.
