GAME REPORT

Taurasi, Ekat Shoot Down Prague

A sensational third quarter and some typically deadly three-point shooting by Diana Taurasi helped UMMC Ekaterinburg recover from a 14 point deficit to take a 78-71 victory at still winless ZVVZ USK Prague.

Diana Taurasi was red hot for Ekaterinburg in Prague
But, it had looked like new head coach Natalia Hejkova might just have brought the Midas touch to the beleagured hosts when coinciding with the return to fitness of powerhouse Rebekkah Brunson,  Prague found themselves 38-24 ahead in the second quarter.

The Czech outfit outscored their opponent 21-4 during a breathtaking spell but to their cost, they then  went scoreless during the last three minutes of the half as Ekat rattled off seven consecutive points to give them a platform to build on when they returned to the floor.

Unfortunately for the home fans, Prague left their defence in the locker room and gave up an eye-watering 30 points during the third quarter as Ekaterinburg turned the game on its' head.

Taurasi hit her fourth triple of the game as the tournament favourites went into the lead at 48-45, and from there it looked like being only one winner as they extended their advantage to 71-56 after a free-throw by Ewelina Kobryn.

Prague tried to launch a revival during the fourth quarter and cut the gap to just five points inside the last minute, but couldn't prevent slumping to a third loss in as many games.

Taurasi finished with 24 points whilst Jelena Dubljevic had an efficient 16 points for the losing team.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes ZVVZ USK Prague vs. UMMC Ekaterinburg

Olaf Lange, head coach, UMMC Ekaterinburg

"I am really happy for the result, USK played with energy and very well in defence. In the second half we were better in defence, and that was the key to the success. It is an advance to have Taurasi, because she is a very intelligent player and a real leader."

Ewelina Kobryn, UMM Ekaterinburg

"In the first half we made lots of mistakes, but the second half was much better. We started to run, played better and listened to the coach. USK showed that they are a good team."

Natalie Hejková, ZVVZ USK Praha

"It was hard, because we only have two days to get to know each other. But the players played well. We didn´t play good in the third period, we didn't defend well. It was a pity that Anna De Forge could not play because of the injury. Congratulations to Ekaterinburg."

Jelena Škerović, ZVVZ USK Praha

"It was a good game. We played good in the first half, but then we lost the concentration, we didn´t play good in defence and we left too many shots open for Ekatarinburg."
