Schio Sneak Past Resilient Targoviste

Famila Schio claimed a sixth win in seven games to regain top spot in EuroLeague Women Group B, after being made to work hard to secure a 66-62 home court success against a resilient Municipal Targoviste.

Playing without their influential point guard Giorgia Sottana who sat out the game with an injury, Schio once again relied on the in-form Jantel Lavender who continues to light it up under the basket.

She proved to be the game winner once again as she landed a third successive double-double, and top scored for the Italian club for the fourth game in a row.

Her 26 points and 10 rebounds were critical in a game Schio had looked like running away with at various junctures in the first-half.

Down by 29-15, the game looked to be drifting away from the visitors, but Targoviste posted a 15-2 run to change the reflection of the contest.

It was a much tighter affair after this, as both clubs struggled to get their perimeter game going.

But, the home side always looked the more likely to prevail - and so it proved.

It was still a one-shot game in crunch time with Schio ahead 66-63, and veteran forward Raffaella Masciadri effectively sealed the win with 90 seconds left as she delivered a dagger three-ball to put the win beyond Targoviste.

Monique Currie top scored with 14 points for the losing team and Milka Bjelica contributed 16 rebounds.
