|Red hot from behind the arc: Wisla shooter Anke De Mondt|
Wisla Can-Pack Krakow and CCC Polkowice were not in a good mood as they returned to the domestic battles in Poland over the weekend as each had suffered defeats in the opening week of the EuroLeague Women.
Both were resounding winners in the PLKK, though, with Wisla trouncing Widzew Lodz, 87-64, and Polkowice blowing out Gorzow, 91-56.
Anke De Mondt, the best three-point-shooter in the Krakow side, nailed three of four from long range and finished with 17 points.
Jose Ignacio Hernandez, the Wisla coach, is more concerned about what takes place when the opponents have the ball.
"If we want to achieve better results for the whole game, we have to play tough defense," he said.
"We had to put in a lot of hard work to win today but it's good for our team because it shows that we need to be focused all the time.
"Maybe some players think they are big stars, stars from the United States, but if you are not going to work and play hard, then we will have problems with any opponent."
Hernandez was happier with his team's effort after the break.
"In the second half we played better, faster and with a much better defense," he said.
The Polkowice v Gorzow game featured the past and present coaches of Poland's national side.
Polkowice were convincing winners, with Australia international Belinda Snell hitting six of nine shots from the arc and leading Polkowice with 28 points.
Maciejewski said: "I congratulate the winning team from Polkowice for the beautiful basketball they showed.
"I hope that in the near future, we will be able to play as CCC did today. But that's a long way away."
