Uni Györ produced one of the most impressive results of the entire EuroLeague Women season in Group B when they shrugged off the double departure of Ieva Kublina and Chalysa Shaygog to muster a super 78-72 success against Rivas Ecopolis.
Having been torn apart in Vidnoje last week, Györ then suffered a potentially devastating blow to their hopes of qualification to the post season when they waved goodbye to two of their starting five.
However, showing incredible amounts of resolve, spirit and some excellent play, they left Rivas Ecoplis stunned by producing a fine home win.
There had been little to separate the teams during a tight first half which Györ shaded 36-34 and it was a similar story when the teams returned to the court after the break.
Successive baskets by Nora Nagy-Budjoso put Gyor 59-51 in front, but Rivas responded with the last four points of the third period to ensure it was a close encounter once again.
However, Györ were always on the front foot and when they scored the first eight points of the last quarter, it proved to be the game-winning run they needed.
Gyorgyi Ori landed a triple to put her team 74-62 to the good, meaning Györ were able to hang on when Rivas threatened a late rally.
Nagy-Budjoso had a terrific 20 points, whilst Natalie Hurst came up with ten assists for Gyor.
Aneika Henry had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Rivas who missed the additional presence of Laura Nicholls inside.
